How to search effectively:
So now that you're in high school the expectations for your research will become tougher as the years go on. In preparation for University and other research I am disallowing the use of editable online websites such as Wikipedia and About.com as sources in your writing.
What's wrong with these websites? Well, the ability for anyone to edit these websites causes a lot of problems when doing research as many of the facts or ideas you may be writing about may have been edited by the person sitting next to you. This is not to say these websites are bad, as I often use them myself; however, you should be using these websites to guide your research. If you are on these websites you may want to check out the sources on the bottom as they often come from more reputable websites. We will focus on what makes a website reputable in class when research comes up.
I suggest you check out the library website for research as it offers many helpful ideas and ways to find reputable websites.
The school is also able to provide access to many journals which are very reputable on the journals page of the library website located here:
http://www.pahs.ednet.ns.ca/Library/Databases.html
Articles provided through the resources on the Library Database are excellent options for your papers and I would definitely recommend checking it out.
